He was a Chinese Buddhist monk who came to India on foot during the reign of Chandragupta II. Born in 337 AD, Fa Hsien or Faxian started his journey to India in 399 AD and reached by 405 AD. Fa Hsien is also popularly called by other names Fa-Hsien and Faxian in some regions.
