He was a Dutch scientist who was inspired by the first pendulum clock design made by the famous Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei. The above image is the first pendulum clock design published by Galileo in 1637 as per the information provided on Wikipedia. However, Galileo is said to have never finished building that pendulum.
