But there is some difference between the two terms. In this article, I will let you know the two terms more clearly and go through the Difference Between Profession and Career. The word profession is taken from the Latin term ‘profiteri’ that implies declare publicly. A profession is an occupation that is established through education, training, skills, and expertise. The person who is doing the profession is known as a professional. Some best examples of the profession are – Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, etc. To be a professional in any field, a college degree is a basic requirement, and some of the professions require further education and training to improve the skills and expertise in a particular field. Some of the professionals work on their own without any boss or supervisor. Such individuals who charge fees for their work and function independently are known as ‘practicing professionals.’ The word career is taken from the Latin word ‘carrus’ that implies a wheeled vehicle. A career can be defined as any occupation that a person takes in his whole life like education, training, jobs, business, work experience, etc. In simple words, a career is a series of connected jobs or work which you do in your life span, and this also builds your career path. So, a career is not one job; it is a series of jobs, professions, or businesses. In the course of career-building, you gain knowledge, acquire relevant skills, and move higher career-wise to earn more money. A career is a journey where you learn certain things related to your field, and it is different for every individual. A person’s career is hugely dependent on the type of job he/she is doing at present. Profession Vs. Career The profession can be defined as an occupation which requires relevant education, training, and expertise. In contrast, a career can be defined as the series of jobs or employment which a person takes in his lifespan. The profession is based on education and training, while the person’s ambition influences the career. Every profession has a set of guidelines or code of conduct, while there are no such rules or guidelines in the context of a career as he/she is free to select any career at any time. You must always have a career plan, and it should move in an upward direction. A successful career depends upon how much experience, skills, and expertise you gain in your career path. You can be in the same profession for your whole life, but a career gives you the option to change your occupation if you are not satisfied. This is the main difference between Career and Profession. 1 Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on WhatsApp Share on LinkedIn You must login to add an answer.Continue with FacebookContinue with GoogleContinue with Twitteror use Username or email* Password* Captcha* Remember Me!
