Adrenal gland disorder is a rare cause of adrenal gland enlargement. It can be secondary to many other disorders like Cushing’s syndrome, androgen-producing tumors, etc.
The adrenal gland is situated on top of each kidney. It secretes hormones like aldosterone, cortisol, and others.
A tumorous enlargement or inflammation can cause abnormal secretion of these hormones leading to an endocrine disorder. It is usually associated with Cushing’s syndrome.
Adrenal tumors and/or adrenal gland hyperplasia are a common cause of Cushing’s syndrome.
An adrenal tumor, or a cancerous growth of the adrenal gland, can cause Cushing’s syndrome by producing excess cortisol.
The essential feature of Cushing’s syndrome is an imbalance between cortisol and ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) secretion.
