The sum of side of a square and length of a rectangle is 30m and the sum of the side of the square and breadth of the rectangle is 24m. If the length of the rectangle is twice its breadth, what is the respective ratio between the area of the square and the area of the rectangle?

Let the width of rectangle be x metre.

∴ Length = 2x metre

Let side of square = y metre

According to the question,

2x + y = 30 ….(i)

x + y = 24 …..(ii) By equation (i) – (ii),

x = 6 metre

From equation (ii)

6 + y = 24

=> y = 24 – 6 = 18 metre

∴ Area of square : Area of rectangle

= (18 × 18) : (6 × 12) = 9 : 2
