Acceleration (a):

The time rate of change of velocity of an object is called the acceleration of the object. i.e.

Where v2 = velocity of an object at time t2 and v1 = velocity of an object at time t1

It is a vector quantity.

It’s direction is same as that of change in velocity.

CALCULATION:

Given that,

⇒ Initial velocity of the car (u) = 18 km/h

⇒ Final velocity of the car (v) = 72 km/h

⇒ Acceleration is defined as change in velocity with respect to time i.e. a = vf/t

⇒ Change in velocity is final velocity – initial velocity (vf)= 72- 18 ⇒ 54 Km/h = 54 × 5 /18

⇒ 15 m/s.

⇒ Acceleration of the car (a) = 15/5 = 3m/s2.

⇒ Therefore, the acceleration of the car (a) = 3m/s2.
