Higher organisms have resorted to sexual reproduction in spite of their complexity. Why?
Sexual reproduction is more complicated than asexual reproduction, but it has several advantages. First, sexual reproduction results in greater genetic diversity among the offspring.
This increased diversity helps populations survive when faced with changing environmental conditions. Second, sexual reproduction allows for the exchange of genetic information between organisms.
This can result in the development of new traits in the offspring. So, higher organisms have resorted to sexual reproduction because it results in increased genetic diversity and the exchange of genetic information.
In spite of the complexity of sexual reproduction, it is still more advantageous than asexual reproduction. Hence, most organisms that have the ability to reproduce sexually do so.
