When notifications are not showing up on your Android smartphone, the first thing you will have to do is check the notification settings on your phone.
Follow these steps to check the notification settings:
Time needed: 1 minute
- 0.1 Open Settings
- 0.2 Choose Apps & Notifications
- 0.3 Scroll down
- 0.4 App notifications
- 0.5 On the lock screen
- 1 Fix 1: Restart your Android phone
- 1.1 Fix 2: Disable Power Saver Mode
- 1.2 How do I fix no notification on android?
- 1.3 How do I see past notifications on my Android?
- 1.4 Why is my Samsung not showing notifications?
Launch the Settings app on your Android smartphone
Choose Apps & Notifications
Now, tap on the Apps & notifications option
Then, scroll down to the bottom and select Notifications
The first option will be App notifications. Open that option and check whether it is enabled for all the apps.
On the lock screen
Go back and see the “On the lock screen” option. This one should be set to “Show all notification content“. There will be three options under this – 1) Show all notifications content, 2) Hide Sensitive notification content, and 3) Don’t show notifications at all.
Note that Android won’t show notifications when –
- When the notifications are turned off accidentally/unknowingly
- When you set your lock screen settings to block notifications from showing
- When the notifications your phone received have hidden sensitive content in them
If none of this represents your issue, simply check whether your notification sound is turned on or not. Do not keep your phone in silent mode as you may miss out on important notifications. Try these troubleshooting methods when the above steps didn’t solve your problem –
Fix 1: Restart your Android phone
If you think that there is nothing wrong with the notification settings on your smartphone, then you may try rebooting your device as there could be a temporary issue that’s blocking notifications from popping up. Simply, press & hold the power button and select the reboot/restart option.
Fix 2: Disable Power Saver Mode
Power Saver/Battery Saver mode is a feature that comes in every Android phone. This mode blocks unnecessary apps from running in the background to ensure your phone’s battery is saved.
So, this mode might be blocking notifications from showing up on your phone. You can check whether this mode is enabled/disabled by swiping down from the top of the screen and having a look at the Battery Saver mode icon. Tap on the icon to turn it off/on.
Fix 3: Disable Do Not Disturb Mode
Do Not Disturb is another mode on your Android smartphone that stops every notification from being displayed on the screen. All you need to do is simply make sure this mode is turned off by swiping down from the top of the home screen and checking the Do Not Disturb icon. You can tap on the icon to enable/disable.
Fix 4: Turn off Data Saver Mode
The Data Saver mode on your device will block specific apps from running or using data/internet when enabled. In such a case, the app notifications will not pop up as they get blocked. You can turn on/off this mode as per your mobile data requirements.
However, you can select certain apps from which you want to receive notifications even when you enable this mode. Or you can block specific app notifications.
To access Data Saver settings on your Android device, launch the Settings app >> Select Network & internet >> Tap on Data usage >> Choose Data Saver >> Select Unrestricted data >> Toggle On the switch next to apps from which you want to receive notifications without any interruptions from the data saver mode.
Under unrestricted data, if an app is not turned on & when data saver mode is enabled, you may not receive notifications from that app.
Fix 5: Disable Battery Optimization
Battery optimization is another feature that lets the Android OS restrict certain apps from sending notifications. To check whether battery optimization is enabled for an app on your phone & to disable it –
- Go to Settings
- Select Apps & Notifications
- Scroll down to the bottom
- Choose Advanced
- Tap on Special app access
- Select Battery Optimization
- Tap on the drop-down arrow
- Select All apps
- Scroll down to find the app from which you are not receiving notifications
- Select the app
- Choose Don’t optimize
- Tap Done
By default, every app on your smartphone will be set to battery optimization. So, if you are having notifications problems for only one specific app, you may opt-out of optimization for that app by following the above steps to check whether the issue gets fixed.
How do I fix no notification on android?
You may try restarting your device at first and if you still don’t get any notifications on your Android phone, check the notification settings under the Apps & notifications section. Turn off special modes like Data Saver, Battery Saver/Power Saver, Do Not Disturb, etc. With this, you will get back your notifications.
How do I see past notifications on my Android?
You can see all your old notifications by checking out the Notification Log on your device. Follow the steps mentioned in this guide to see the notification history on your Android smartphone.
Why is my Samsung not showing notifications?
If your Samsung phone is not showing notifications, try rebooting the device. Make sure notifications are turned on & modes like data saver mode, battery saver mode, battery optimization mode, DND, etc are disabled.
Also, make sure that the app from which you are not getting notifications on your Samsung device is given background access.
